A List of Activities and Resources for Anyone Stuck at Home

If you are stuck at home and are getting bored, need something to do or need some help keeping your kids educated, check out this list full of free online resources from local and national sources

A lot of digital resources are available with a Basalt Library Card such as Kanopy, Mango Languages and a New Online Book Club. If you do not already have a library card, you can register for one and get instant access to these resources at basaltlibrary.org/library-cards

The Art Base in Basalt is providing Art Kits To-Go that can be picked up for free at the studio building's back porch. They also have a lot of online art prompts available in both English and Spanish, and they are also in the process of creating more online content for kids and adults. The Aspen Historical has put together a collection of a bunch of ways you can enjoy their history while at home. This includes coloring pages, historical videos and videos of past programs on their YouTube Channel, their online photo archive which includes thousands of photos, and more. Google has taken street view images at over 3,000 different museums and heritage sites around the world, such as the British Museum in London and Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C., which you can virtually tour online. The Seattle Symphony is livestreaming rebroadcasts of previous concerts, led by Music Director Thomas Dausgaard. They are also livestreaming two "family-friendly" education broadcasts, "Meet the Instrument" and "Tiny Clips for Tiny Tots".

LEGO is sharing simple design challenges and has assembled LEGO designers, creatives and play experts to come up with new ways to help families "stay creative, curious and connected" while at home. This includes daily play challenges, new play ideas and live build-a-longs being shared through photos and videos on social media using the hashtag #letsbuildtogether and at lego.com/letsbuildtogether

Scratch is a free online drag and drop coding language that teaches kids the basics of computer coding, created by students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. www.StormTheCastle.com is a fantastic site filled with 100’s of instructions for making all kinds of cool stuff with items you already have at home: cardboard castles, stop motion animation, terrariums, dioramas, cardboard armor and even a recipe to make vinegar & milk “plastic”.

National Geographic has created Resources For Families, a web page featuring resources for families, students and kids, including interesting articles, “Boredom Busters”, videos for kids, homework help and more. This collection of resources has been put together at
