Raleigh Burleigh was raised in the sweet backwaters of Satank and attended the Carbondale Community School then Roaring Fork High School. The Carbondale Rotary Club sponsored him as a youth ambassador to Chile for a year before his graduation in 2011. Raleigh then attended Colorado Mountain College, building his associate degree first online from California, then across the Roaring Fork Valley and finally at the Leadville campus. He studied International Affairs and Journalism at the University of Colorado, Boulder then applied those studies traveling throughout South America for the following year. Having returned to Carbondale to recollect himself, Raleigh acquired an internship with KDNK News which led to the opportunity to serve his community as News Director. After briefly returning to South America in early 2019, Raleigh Burleigh is now drawing deeper into the rich soils of this confluence as Program Director at KDNK.

Members of Carbondale’s Two Rivers Unitarian Universalist Church traveled to Denver Monday in support of The People’s Resolution, which seeks to improve state and federal immigration policy.

KDNK’s Raleigh Burleigh joins artists Will Gurley and Bobby Martin at The Launchpad where their work is on display. Both exhibits play with the notion of preservation and encroaching development. The artists host a special closing reception in conjunction with 5Point Film on April 26 from 5 to 6pm. Will Gurley also speaks about “The Art of Business” the following day at The Thunder River Theatre. The full schedule of community events related to 5Point is available here.

Aspen Ute Foundation

Aspen Ute Foundation's annual pow wow will be at Aspen High School this year with a new name and more activities than ever. Aspen Ute Foundation Founder Deanne Vitrac-Kessler, coordinator Anuk Bald Eagle, board member Karin Gieske and volunteer Bill Hildebrand joined Raleigh Burleigh on Express Yourself to talk about the Shining Mountains Pow Wow, at Aspen high School from 1pm to 10pm on April 13. Grand Entry is at 5pm.

Thunder River Theatre Company

Thunder River Theatre presents Bluenose, a pirate comedy for kids and adults, on April 12 and 19 at 6:30pm and on April 13 and 20 at 2pm. KDNK's Raleigh Burleigh spoke with cast and crew about the show.

Heartsong is an amalgamation of thought and audio: a poetic experiment with anthro-apologetic tendencies. In previous episodes, archived here, KDNK's Raleigh Burleigh recounted his journey South, renewing established connections in Chile and Argentina. The primary goal of this latest adventure was to learn about the Mapuche, a proud indigenous nation of the Southern Cone of South America. The word Mapuche translates literally as “People of the Earth.”

Valley Life for All is building inclusive communities, one voice at a time. Emily has a huge smile and a larger heart. She wants to be a spiritual counselor for other people who are struggling. She knows what it is to be bullied and helps us understand the social skills that are struggles for kids with special needs. KDNK's Raleigh Burleigh joined muralist Valerie Rose for a painting session with other community artists to complete a new installation for the Latino Folk Art Garden in Carbondale. Meet Cecilia: She is a mother of an amazing young adult with autism. She is a powerful advocate and a model of courage and perseverance. Jueves, 21 de febrero, Moira Millán, weichafe mapuche perteneciente al Lof Pillán Mahuiza se presentó en la Cámara Federal de Apelaciones de Comodoro Rivadavia ante acusaciones de coacción doblemente agravada contra el juez Guido Otrando debido a una ocupación pacifica del Juzgado Federal de Esquel el 20 de septiembre de 2017. El juez Guido Otrando había mandado allanamientos sufridos por la comunidad Vuelta del Rió y Moira Millán accionó en solidaridad con sus integrantes. Después de dar su defensa contra una apelación que pretenda deshacer su absolución ya declarada, Moira Millán dió este discurso frente al publico de Comodoro Rivadavia, el Movimiento de Mujures Indigenas por El Buen Vivir y observadores y medios internacionales.

On January 19th, about 24 hours before a total lunar eclipse, a 6.7-magnitude earthquake rattled Tongoy, Chile. KDNK’s Raleigh Burleigh, who is in Chile, was attending an opera at the time. He sent us this lyrical dispatch describing the experience of riding out the shaking earth as the choir continued to sing:

Andrew and Connie present "Climate, Consciousness and the Indigenous Connection" with Anuk Bald Eagle and Sally Ramney at the Third Street Center on January 3 at 7pm with support by Davi Nikent.


With vaping on the rise among youth, especially in Colorado, Youth Zone is piloting a project with the Roaring Fork School District to intervene before students are issued a ticket. To learn more about the program, KDNK’s Raleigh Burleigh spoke with Youth Zone executive director Lori Mueller.

Diane Orlov founded the Angel of Hope Mosaic Project to remind each of us that we are angels unto one another. KDNK's Raleigh Burleigh visited her studio in Carbondale to learn more about the giant mosaic that she is putting together in celebration of the Roaring Fork Valley. The mural will be installed outside of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Glenwood Springs.


Josiah Utsch, a senior at Colorado Rocky Mountain School, is dedicated to raising awareness about the nautilus, an ancient, shelled species related to the squid and octopus. Despite having survived several mass extinctions over 500 million years, the nautilus is now in danger of disappearing.  Josiah gave a presentation to students at Basalt Middle School about his nonprofit Save the Nautilus on Thursday, December 6. KDNK's Raleigh Burleigh interviewed him shortly after that presentation.
