Kids Corner | Movies & Films

Kids' Corner is the Andy Zanca Youth Empowerment Program's family radio hour created by kids, for kids. Our theme this month is movies and films. During this program, you will hear great songs from movie soundtracks, a read-aloud book about going to the movies, recipe ideas to take your popcorn to the next level, and much more!

This Movie/Film Themed Show included the following:

Songs:
"Pure Imagination" from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
"Hakuna Matata" from the Lion King
"You've Got a Friend in Me" from Toy Story
"Bare Necessities" from the Jungle Book
"Singing in the Rain" from Singing in the Rain
"Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" from Mary Poppins
"My Favorite Things" from the Sound of Music
"If I Didn't Have You" from Monsters Inc.

Recipe of the Month: Fun Popcorn!

Use your favorite plain popcorn recipe, then add:

Smores Popcorn: Whisk 5 tablespoons melted butter with 2 teaspoons each vanilla extract and kosher salt; drizzle over 16 cups hot popcorn. Toss with 2 cups each mini marshmallows, chocolate chips and lightly crushed graham crackers. Spread on baking sheets and bake at 350 degrees F until the marshmallows and chocolate are slightly melted, about 2 minutes.

Peanut Butter–Banana-Chocolate: Heat 1 cup honey and 3/4 cup sugar over medium heat, stirring, until the sugar dissolves, about 5 minutes. Stir in 1 cup peanut butter and 1 teaspoon each vanilla extract and kosher salt until smooth; pour over 16 cups hot popcorn and 2 cups peanuts and toss. Spread on baking sheets and let cool. Add 1 cup dried banana chips and 1/2 cup chocolate chips with the peanuts.

Cookies and Cream Popcorn: Simply crush up Oreo cookies, add the bits and melted white chocolate to the popcorn, and mix it all up for a delectable, chocolatey bite.

Sushi Popcorn: Whisk 1 1/2 tablespoons each vegetable oil and soy sauce with 2 teaspoons each toasted sesame oil and rice vinegar; drizzle over 16 cups hot popcorn. Toss with 2 cups torn roasted seaweed snacks and1 cup wasabi peas.

Three-Cheese Popcorn: Toss 16 cups hot popcorn with 2 cups shredded cheddar, 1 cup grated parmesan and 1/2 cup grated pecorino; spread on baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees F until the cheddar melts, 3 minutes. Season with salt.

Chili - Lime Popcorn: mix a little bit of butter, lime juice, cayenne, cumin, and salt and toss the popcorn in it.

Read-Aloud Book: "Maisy Goes to the Movies" by Lucy Cousins

Family Challenge: Our family challenge this month is very simple. Kids, ask your parents or guardians what their favorite movie was from their childhood. You can talk about why they love it so much and then sit down and have a family movie night! Hopefully their favorite will become one of your favorites too! You can also try one of our popcorn recipes from earlier in the episode today. Have fun watching a movie together!
