Film Screening of 1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture

Ute Theater to Host Free Screening of Award-Winning Film "1946" on September 13, 2024

Rifle, Colorado — On September 13, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Ute Theater in Rifle, Colorado, will host a special free screening of the acclaimed documentary 1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture. This event is open to the public, and seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

The evening will begin with a brief talk by a pastor from the Roaring Fork Methodist Church, who will share insights on how this groundbreaking film has directly impacted the LGBTQ community, both locally and beyond. 1946 is a powerful exploration of the mistranslation in the Bible that has been used to condemn LGBTQ individuals, shedding light on the deep and lasting implications of this historical error.

Since its release, *1946* has garnered widespread recognition and numerous awards, including Best Documentary at the Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ+ Film Festival and the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Frameline San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival. The film has sparked crucial conversations around love, inclusion, and understanding, and it continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.

At this event, attendees will have the opportunity to engage with several community-focused initiatives:

- One Colorado will be present to represent the LGBTQ community and offer resources and support.
- Pro Colorado Education representation
- A table will be available to assist those who are not yet registered to vote, emphasizing the importance of civic engagement.
- Protect Our Garfield Libraries will be collecting signatures for their petition to challenge efforts aimed at restricting access to certain books in our libraries. While some may frame these efforts as a matter of "protection," we believe they amount to censorship and an attempt to ban the very ideas that contribute to our collective understanding and empathy.
- An education table will highlight how book censorship and other restrictive measures have adversely affected LGBTQ students in our schools.

Concessions will be provided by the theater, allowing attendees to enjoy refreshments during the event.

This screening is more than just a film viewing; it is an opportunity for our community to come together, learn, and foster a deeper sense of compassion, love, and understanding. Our neighbors are directly affected by the issues raised in *1946*, and it is our hope that attendees will leave the theater with a renewed commitment to inclusivity and support for one another.
