Gingerbread House Competition
Gingerbread House Competition
Entry forms for the gingerbread house competition organized by Glenwood Springs Historical Society are now available at the nonprofit’s website, GlenwoodHistory.org, and are due November 17. Competition entries will be displayed in the Hotel Colorado’s Roosevelt Room as part of the hotel’s annual holiday celebration on November 28, with cash and other prizes awarded in both judged and people’s choice categories. Top vote-getters will be displayed for continued voting in the lobby of ANB Bank through December 12, when the people’s choice will be announced. Vote donations all benefit Glenwood Springs Historical Society, a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
The contest is open to three non-professional categories of entrants: adults aged 18 and older who are not employed as bakers or chefs, teens aged 13-17, and children 12 and younger. Entrants can work individually or as part of two-person teams. The entry fee is $10. A fourth category of creations prepared by professional cooks is by invitation only. Individual and two-person teams comprised of caterers, chefs, bakers, and other culinary professionals will be considered. To receive an invitation, write to director@glenwoodhistory.org.
Adult submissions must represent a local house, building, landmark, or attraction, but entries in the teen and children categories can depict any creation. Every entry must be accompanied by a short description of the building or creation shown, and information about the design’s inspiration. These stories, submitted on a five-by-eight card, will be displayed alongside the creations. Contestants can download a registration form at GlenwoodHistory.org, then submit the completed entry form by email or regular mail. Entries will be judged for skill and artistry during the November 28th event by a community panel.
