On April 30th at 1 PM, the Board of County Commissioners will be meeting to interview candidates for the Garfield County Public Library District's Board of Trustees. Historically, the BOCC has trusted GCPLD with interviewing and appointing trustees. However, a group of county residents have taken it upon themselves to protest materials within the library's collection that they've deemed objectionable; they've petitioned for materials to be shelved in a restricted area (or removed from the collection completely) and have gone as far as to state that these books should be burned. Because of this, the BOCC saw fit to take charge of the trustee appointment process. Our commissioners have not been impartial with regards to this matter, openly approving of censorship.

Protect our Garfield County Libraries is a group effort comprised of Garfield County volunteers who care deeply about preserving the integrity of our local library system. Join us at noon on April 30th, at the intersection of 8th and Pitkin in Glenwood Springs. We will be gathering to show our support of GCPLD and the freedom to read. Wear red to show that you believe in being well read!
