The Carbondale Historical Society invites the community to an evening dedicated to one of the valley's most cherished traditions: the Mountain Fair. On Thursday, April 9th, join neighbors, longtime volunteers, and fair veterans at the Round Room at Third Street Center for a conversation that traces the fair from its origins to the present day — and looks ahead to where it's going.
The evening will move through three chapters of the Mountain Fair story: how it started, the pivotal moments of growth and tension that shaped its character, and the vision its community holds for its future. Rather than a single presentation, this is an open conversation — one that invites the audience to be part of the story. To bring these stories to life, the evening will draw from old photo albums and archival podcast segments, weaving together voices and images across time in a multimedia format that makes history tangible. Attendees can expect moments of recognition, surprise, and connection — the kind that come from learning how the things we love were actually built.
Light refreshments will be available throughout the evening at no charge.
Legends of Mountain Fair is presented in collaboration with Carbondale Arts, and is part of a growing series of community programming hosted by the Carbondale Historical Society — an effort to preserve the valley's stories not just in archives, but in conversation.
