Community Calendar

After-school classes are a fun and welcoming space where elementary students can explore their creativity and imagination. Students will experiment with drawing, painting, collage, and mixed media while learning basic art skills through hands-on projects and playful exploration. Emphasis is placed on creativity, curiosity, and self-expression rather than perfection, helping young artists build confidence and enjoy the process of making art. In a supportive and encouraging environment, students will make new friends, try new materials, and discover the joy of creating something uniquely their own.

Unwind, get creative, and connect with fellow makers at The Makers Nook, a monthly crafting program for adults at the Basalt Library. Held on the third Wednesday of each month from April through June, this hands-on series explores a different creative skill each session—perfect for beginners and experienced crafters alike.

April 15th: Scrapbooking – Preserve your favorite memories with beautiful, personalized pages.

May 20th: Candle Making – Learn the art of crafting custom-scented candles to brighten your space.

June 17th: Macramé – Discover the basics of knotting and create a stylish handmade piece.

All materials are provided. Come relax, create, and leave with something uniquely yours!

Explore the full painting process from start to finish, with an emphasis on using light to create depth, atmosphere, and life. Learn surface prep and why it matters, then dive into underpainting, grisaille, and the slow build of color through glazing and finishing. With demos, guided practice, and individual feedback, you’ll strengthen values, form, and luminosity at every stage—great for oil beginners or painters refining their process.

Printmaking with Sarah McMahon - This is a beginner-friendly printmaking class designed just for kids – no experience needed! Young artists will design, carve, ink, and create their own original prints in a fun, hands-on environment. All materials are provided, and kids will get to take home their own unique prints.

Join us at the library for a creative, confidence-boosting teen workshop where you’ll design your own pair of symbolic wings! Each participant will build a set of wings using feathers inscribed with words and affirmations written by others in the group—qualities, strengths, and traits that make you uniquely you. As the feathers come together, so does a powerful reminder of how you’re seen and valued by your community. Come ready to create, connect, and leave lifted by the positive words that help you soar.

Acompáñanos en la biblioteca durante un taller creativo para adolescentes en el que diseñarás tu propio par de alas simbólicas y reafirmarás tu confianza. Cada participante construirá un par de alas utilizando plumas grabadas con palabras y afirmaciones escritas por otros en el grupo — cualidades, fortalezas y las cualidades que te hacen ser excepcionalmente tú.
