Garfield County Democrats hosted U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colorado) in Glenwood Springs yesterday. KDNK spoke with Bennet in downtown Glenwood after the event to ask how the recently passed $740 billion Inflation Reduction Act might impact the Roaring Fork Valley.
"The Inflation Reduction Act is going to be incredibly important to the Roaring Fork Valley," said Bennet. "We have $10 billion coming to do forestry work to protect our watersheds to make sure that our National Forests are in much better shape. It's got $20 million for farmers in America and on the West Slope of Colorado to make sure they can participate in measures to create greater soil health, (and) there's $4 billion for the Colorado Basin—the Upper and Lower Basin—to begin to start dealing with the drought that we've got to face."
Bennet is just one of the high-profile dems who have been making stops on the Western Slope this week. Gov. Jared Polis came through the Roaring Fork Valley over the weekend, and dropped by a lettuce farm in Silt on Tuesday to tout the water-saving benefits of a hydroponic agriculture bill he recently signed. Polis and Bennet are running for reelection in November's midterms.
