Angie Davlyn had been with Roaring Fork Schools for seven years. She told the Post Independent in a written statement that she was going about the day-to-day duties of her job when she pointed out a discrepancy in the district’s employment agreement with Superintendent Rodríguez—namely, that his contract calls for automatic termination with cause without completion of a formal superintendent’s license and certification with the state of Colorado by December 31st, 2022.
Board members say Rodríguez has completed the required work, and that they were aware that he’s yet to formally submit paperwork for the certification.
At least one powerful district parent has demanded an explanation from the board regarding Devlyn’s dismissal. Auden Shendler, Ski Co’s senior VP of sustainability and a former Basalt town councilman, said in a written comment to the board that Devlyn was "a key administrator in the school district with a flawless record and extreme competency,” who was "beloved by many, and an essential point of contact for staff and parents." Rodriguez and members of the board praised Davlyn’s work for the district. However, Rodriguez said Davlyn had been insubordinate and showed a lack of judgment, and that the relationship couldn’t be repaired.
