Sumner Schachter is running for Glenwood Springs City Council for the second time. His first attempt? It was fifty years ago, when he was a social studies teacher in his 20s. He came in last place then, but in the meantime he’s had a nearly four-decade career as a financial planner and investor, and served on boards including the Roaring Fork Schools Board of Education; Garfield Adult Literacy; Glenwood Springs Housing Commission; and Planning and Zoning. He co-founded Imagine Glenwood, and helped bring the successful 2 C for Workforce Housing ballot initiative to voters. Schachter is seeking the Ward 3 seat currently held by Mayor Pro Tem Charlie Willman, who is running for reelection. KDNK’s News Director Morgan Neely talked with Schachter about the issues facing Glenwood Springs.
