The Carbondale Board of Trustees met Tuesday, May 14th, to discuss upcoming events, board priorities, and more. The meeting began with public comments, mainly focused on local traffic concerns. The meeting then moved into a discussion of accounts payable, including the energy bill, and a bill for Roaring Fork Engineering for replacing some utility systems.
There was a combined application for the rezoning administrative site plan for the Carbondale Aquatic Center. The project started in 2020 and includes a land use review process that would replace the existing John M. Fleet Pool. The Carbondale Aquatic Center would consist of a new building along Main Street, three bodies of water, and rooftop solar panels.
Developers submitted amendments to the zoning map that are awaiting board approval. While the project has been received with overall support, the board has expressed concerns about a few aspects including spot zoning and the efficiency of an all electric outdoor pool. Other agenda items included recognizing the Students of the Month and discussion of Denver closing it's shelters.
