This morning's wreck

This morning at approximately 4:30 am, the Colorado State Patrol responded to a multi-semi crash at around mile marker 163 on I-70. Two semi trucks were involved in the collision, one of them had been heading westbound when it went through the left shoulder barrier, then colliding with an eastbound semi. State Patrol Public Information Officer Sherri Mendez told KDNK that the driver and passenger of one of the semi trucks were injured, but no deaths have been reported. No injuries were reported for the westbound driver. Officer Mendez also said that there was no hazardous material spilled, but cleanup could take more than eight hours total. Investigators suspect fatigue played a role in the incident but are pursuing all possible causes. Currently one east bound lane is open but there is no information on when a full reopening will be possible. In the meantime, drivers are advised to take an alternate route by way of Highway 6. This accident comes just days after a semi truck crashed in the canyon outside Glenwood Springs. The semi truck crashed through the westbound guard rail and fell onto the eastbound lane below.
