The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is looking into the violent deaths of two people on Saturday near Rifle at a Grass Mesa residence. Garfield County sheriffs deputies received a domestic violence call on Saturday evening, but were unable to locate the husband who had fled on foot. According to a press release from the sheriff, Deputies attempted to get his wife to leave the residence and go somewhere safe until they could locate and arrest her husband. They then left the scene and prepared an arrest warrant, which included a restraining order violation. Later that evening at around 10 PM, a 911 call reported the husband had returned and was trying to locate a gun inside of the house. The call was disconnected. Deputies returned to the home and broke in, only to find a woman in the master bedroom and a man in the recliner in the living room, both dead from gunshots. The man’s wounds appeared self-inflicted. There was a history of domestic violence incidents between the two. The identities of the victim and perpetrator have not been released, and the CBI is investigating, in the interest of removing any conflicts of interest in the previous Domestic Violence investigation.
