The Pink to Black concert series is back at Thunder River Theater. On Saturday night, the auditorium was transformed with a platform stage, three projection screens, and two giant wizard hands above the band. The Magic Beans are a Denver-based band known for their funk, rock, and magical themes. Their most recent album, aptly titled Impendo Destructo is a farewell to the group as we know it. Here's Thunder River's Emily Henley,
Henley: We were super stoked to start with such a fun show and a Colorado band, and then it was just even more magical to be able to have them on one of their last shows before they retire. I believe they only have a handful more [shows] in Colorado, so we were really excited to be able to give them a grand send-off as well as kick off our series.
KDNK: They looked like they were having a lot of fun. They were smiling the whole time.
Henley: They were so wonderful to have. They were so kind to have the space. I hope in whatever future musical endeavors any of them have that they reach back out.
El Dorado and Thunder River debuted Pink to Black last year, featuring bands like Pink Fuzz and Tatanka, each with their own immersive lights and décor. For the Thunder River team, it's a chance to reach out to more community members.
Henley: I think we've really dialed in what the, we want the experience to feel like for the people in our room during Pink to Black and this sense of fun and play with the live music that is just joyful, and being able to see so many of our locals that haven't been able to turn up for other events, be able to turn up to this event and have fun in the space, and get to explore the space.. I think is so, so magical.
There are two more bands lined up for this season. The Chilean rock band Kiltro is returning on January 16th, and groovy newcomer Houseplant follows in March.
