Nonprofit Spotlight

  • Carbondale is home to The Meeting Place, a location devoted exclusively to recovery from all kinds of addictions through all manner of approaches. Currently the cozy basement hosts 30 meetings per week. Karlynn Fulmer manages the space, the schedule and the funding from grants, special events and donations from the groups using the space. She joined Mike Lemmer in the KDNK studio for our nonprofit spotlight.
  • Smiling Goat Ranch provides a unique therapeutic experience for clients with neuropsychiatric conditions such as autism, PTSD, and much more in the Roaring Fork Valley. Founder Sheryl Barto visited KDNK's Mike Lemmer in early March to educate our listeners on the science behind the ranch.
  • Mountain Action Indivisible is the Roaring Fork Valley's answer to the national pro-democracy organization Indivisible. Local organizers Debbie Brandon and Lori Bruell visited KDNK to talk about meaningful organizing and making a difference in government.

  • On Saturday night Thunder River Theatre on Carbondale’s Main Street lit up with psychedelic visuals to welcome headliner, The Magic Beans, to ongoing concert series Pink to Black. Pink to Black started last year between the theatre and local bar El Dorado.
  • Recovery Resources operates the only homeless shelter in the Roaring Fork Valley; River Bridge in Glenwood supports interventions with abused children; Mountain Valley Developmental Services gives meaning and community to the region’s developmentally disabled. Valley Voices learns more about all three, with host Marilyn Gleason.
  • A Way Out is a nonprofit organization serving Garfield, Pitkin, Eagle, and Summit counties. Their dedicated staff connects people suffering from Substance Use Disorder to treatment and rehabilitation services. They can even provide partial or full scholarships to those who can't foot the bill. Executive Director Becky Gordon came to speak with KDNK's Mike Lemmer on serving the community in uncertain times.
  • Three Mile Mobile Home Park in Glenwood Springs is on the road to being owned by its residents with the help of a local nonprofit. The park recently broke ground on new infrastructure projects to improve the property for those who live there.
