CPW: Bear That Attacked Woman Near Aspen Killed

Witnesses saw a bear matching the description of the one involved in the attack. State wildlife officers tracked it for awhile before putting it down.

According to a press release from Colorado Parks & Wildlife, it was put down on Highway 82 near McSkimming Road.

Wildlife officials note that they're required to put down any wild animal that has injured a human. They will not relocate the animal out of concern that it was be aggressive in its new location.

The bear bit the unidentified woman Hunter Creek Trail near Lone Pine Road Monday morning. Wildlife officials say the wound was not serious and the woman was treated briefly at Aspen Valley Hospital.

The bear reportedly weighed between 200 and 300 pounds.
