New Chamber of Commerce Provides Bilingual Resources

Americas Chamber of Commerce

The Roaring Fork and Colorado River Valleys have a new chamber of commerce seeking to integrate and empower Spanish-speaking residents. KDNK's Raleigh Burleigh met Americas Chamber of Commerce President and Founder Paulina Navas, Executive Director John Lopez and Vicepresident Susana Salamun.

This is the first chamber of commerce in our valleys to focus specifically on providing resources for Spanish-speaking businesses and entrepreneurs.

On November 12, Garfield County Commissioners granted $2500 from their fourth quarter discretionary funds towards this new initiative. Additionally, Alpine Bank has become its first sponsor, with Latino Services Officer Susana Salamun and Latino Services Coordinator Lucy Moncada-Arcila serving as vice president and secretary on the board.

Raleigh Burleigh was raised in the historic floodplanes of Satank. The Carbondale Rotary Club sponsored him as a youth ambassador to Chile the year before his graduation from Roaring Fork High School. He studied International Affairs and Journalism at the University of Colorado, Boulder then applied those studies traveling throughout South America the following year. Returning to Carbondale thereafter, Raleigh acquired an internship with KDNK News which led to the opportunity to serve as News Director from 2017 to 2019. After another trip to South America in early 2019, Raleigh Burleigh drew deeper into the confluence as Program Director at KDNK. Raleigh now serves on KDNK's board of directors and as editor of Carbondale's weekly newspaper, The Sopris Sun.
