Garfield RE-2 School District Providing Free Meal Pickups This Week

Garfield RE-2 is providing breakfast and lunch for anyone 18 and under at no charge. KDNK’s Lucas Turner has more.

The school district serving students from New Castle to Rifle will be expanding their summer meal program through this week’s closure. RE-2 Nutrition Director Mary Mcphee explains.

MARY MCPHEE: So we are making breakfast and lunch according to the national school lunch program guidelines. We’re putting it in a paper sack, and then they can just meet us at our designated parks, and they can pick up a breakfast sack and a lunch sack.

The district’s big yellow school buses will be parked at multiple locations in Rifle, Silt, and New Castle. Breakfast is served from 8 to 8:30 am and lunch is served 11 am to noon.

The meal program will last through this week but will not continue during Spring Break. Mary Mcphee says if school closures continue after Spring Break, the RE2 meal program will resume.

You can find a list of pickup locations at garfieldre2.net or call Mary Mcphee at (970) 665-7697
