Glenwood Springs Fire Department and Carbondale Rural Fire Protection District responded to a brush fire on Old Highway 82 earlier this afternoon. The fire broke out near Flying Fish Road, about 5 miles east of Carbondale.

Old Highway 82 was closed in the area. As of 1:40 pm, the fire was 2 acres in size and threatening 3 structures. But, firefighters had it contained by 4:30 this afternoon. The cause of the fire is unknown. No structures were damaged and no injuries have been reported. The fire area will be patrolled through the night to watch for flare-ups.

Incident Commander Garrett Kennedy said, “This fire was a bit spooky as it was pushed by high winds toward a number of homes. We really appreciate our neighboring fire crews for responding so quickly to keep this fire relatively small.”

The fire is being investigated by Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District, but it is not believed to be suspicious. No loss amount has been determined at this time, and there was no damage to structures. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.
