2020 ANNUAL EEO PUBLIC FILE REPORT
Carbondale Community Access Radio, Inc.

The information required by FCC Rule 73.2080(c)(6) is provided in the charts that follow.

INITIATIVES

The employment unit engaged in the following broad outreach initiatives in accordance with
various elements of FCC Rule 73.2080(c)(2):

1. Listed each upper-level category opening in a job bank or newsletter of media
trade groups whose membership includes substantial participation of women and
minorities.

KDNK’s Board of Directors worked diligently to advertise the hiring of our new Executive Director in the summer of 2020. All sources used were selected in part because they are known to have diverse audience reach. Radio trade publication Current and hiring website Indeed.com were both utilized in a national search. Local publications the Aspen Times and Glenwood Post, as well as Carbondale weekly newspaper Sopris Sun ran advertisements. The bi-monthly organizational member newsletter featured a story announcing the opportunity, which is where the successful candidate first became aware of the role being offered.

2. Established an internship program designed to assist members of the community to
acquire skills needed for broadcast employment.

Having started his own career as an intern in several media organizations, and then managed successful internship programs prior to his hire, our new Executive Director has worked to establish a strong new internship program, partnering with the University of Montana to host a senior news intern this winter. Student broadcasters who are part of our sister organization, the Andy Zenka Youth Empowerment Project, have opportunities to pursue internship roles within our News Department, Music Department, and Marketing/Events. Having taught Radio and other media courses at local community college - Colorado Mountain College’s Isaacson School For New Media, a continued internship partnership was offered once students return to classrooms. Guided by our ED, the Carbondale Rotary is working to help steer local high school students with an interest in broadcasting towards interning at KDNK, with a goal of establishing a scholarship program to send those students to college on scholarship once they have completed a two-year high school internship. All members are regularly encouraged to reach out to management if they are interested in furthering their broadcasting skills and/or career opportunities. When they do, they are trained in the area of their interest by our staff, with the goal of utilizing their talents on air and behind the scenes to teach them new skills, to augment our busy staff, and to present to our community of listeners a diversity of local voices and talents as much as possible.
