Colorado is among the places on the national radar for an emerging surge in possible COVID-19 cases. As of this past weekend, Colorado had seen nearly 5000 known cases, and 140 deaths as a result of the spread of the new coronavirus. In El Paso County alone, there have been 25 related deaths. KRCC's Andrea Chalfin recently spoke with Dr. Tim Rummel, a pulmonary critical care doctor at UCHealth, on what it's like as the number of cases continues to grow.

A federal grand jury in Denver has indicted the man accused of plotting to blow up a synagogue in Pueblo on three charges, including the original charge of a federal hate crime.

Temple Emanuel in Pueblo plans to install security cameras after the arrest of a man who allegedly planned to blow up the synagogue over the weekend. A statement from Temple Emanuel says police have also increased area patrols. A Southern Colorado man has been charged with a federal hate crime.

A ceremony Monday at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs marked the official re-opening of the U.S. Space Command. 

The United States Air Force has confirmed four locations in Colorado as among the six finalists for its new Space Command headquarters. Three Colorado Springs locations were named as possible locations—Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station, Peterson Air Force Base and Schriever Air Force Base—as was Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora.

The Spring Fire continues to grow quickly, with reports showing a burn area of more than 94,125 acres. That's an increase of 10,000 acres since previously reported. Containment has remained steady at 5%. Most of the land is under private ownership, while state and federal lands are also affected.

34-year-old El Paso County Sheriff's Deputy Micah Flick, an 11-year-veteran of the department, was killed Monday afternoon as law enforcement officers investigated a stolen vehicle in east Colorado Springs.

High-speed transportation along Colorado's Front Range just moved a small but significant step forward, as a route connecting Cheyenne, Wyoming to Pueblo, Colorado was selected as one of ten winners worldwide in the Hyperloop One Global Challenge.
