Sweetwater Lake has been a thorn in the side of Garfield County Commissioners since Governor Jared Polis surprised them with an announcement that the recently conserved gem would become Colorado's 43rd state park.

KDNK's Morgan Neely has the day's news, including an update on a fatal vehicle crash just below the summit of Independence Pass on Tuesday. Also, Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney of Wyoming is a member of the January 6th Committee and has been a strident critic of former President Donald Trump ... and that proved too much of a hurdle in her primary race. In Garfield County, commissioners are still grousing about the decision to turn Sweetwater Lake into Colorado's 43rd state park. Meanwhile, Capitol Reporter Scott Franz says Colorado's trails are getting more crowded, and mostly with wealthy white people; but there are organizations dedicated to bringing BIPOC and economically disadvantaged people into the great outdoors.

Morgan is KDNK's News Director. He comes to KDNK with public radio passion and experience. He was a news host, reporter, and operations/programming director at KAJX-Aspen, and has extensive experience working in municipal government.
