Oscar Wilde is considered by some to be the living embodiment of the Aestheticism, an art movement which includes the likes of Rossetti, William Morris, Whistler, and Beardsley.
Many of whom believed in what we now would refer to as “art for art’s sake”, without an inherent need for art to serve another purpose besides being beautiful.
Wilde is often described as being an ostentatious and disruptive dresser, with a dandy flair.
