On October 1st, the Town of Carbondale Board of Trustees voted unanimously to recognize the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples' Day, rather than Columbus Day. The new event was inaugurated by historian and former Northern Ute Tribal Chairman Roland McCook, accompanied by drummers and dancers from the Ute Mountan Ute Tribe located in southwest Colorado.
