With election day fast approaching after a severe wildfire season, the Carbondale and Rural Fire Protection District is looking to the ballot box for assistance.

At a recent forum in Glenwood Springs hosted by CoWest Noticias Collaborative ahead of the November election, opponents running for seats on the Roaring Fork School District Board of Directors faced off. Two areas within the School District have elections this year, District A and District E. Jodi Barr and Tammy Nimmo are running for the District A seat. District A takes in the territory south of highway 82 from old Snowmass to Carbondale, and its western boundary is Hwy 133 from Carbondale to Marble. KDNK’s Lily Jones brings highlights, starting with school safety, as Tammy Nimmo was questioned by Moderator Raleigh Burleigh, editor of the Sopris Sun newspaper.

The Carbondale and Rural Fire District covers a swath of land stretching from McClure Pass to Missouri Heights and a good chunk of the Hwy 82 corridor. Voters there will decide a ballot question asking for more money for firefighting and other emergency services. Citizens for a Safe Community is campaigning for the measure. Meagan Holland spoke with KDNK’s Mike Lemmer about why she supports it.
