A Garfield County Planning Commission hearing of an amendment to the approved Spring Valley Ranch Planned Unit Development is looming. The hearing was cancelled in September 2024 after the developer requested more time to review water concerns. Now, a new hearing has been set for April 9 and a new voice has joined local opposition

The proposed development in the Spring Valley Ranch Area is a luxury golfing community that would contain a ski hill, over 500 homes, an 18-hole golf course, and other luxury amenities. Spring Valley Ranch is a rural community, comprised mainly of ranchers that sits just between Carbondale and Glenwood Springs. Many of these longtime residents strongly oppose the development, and have organized to fight it.
