Carbondale Arts presents two new exhibitions in the gallery on display March 6-April 9, 2026. "Sweet Excess" by William Lanzillo brings to life giant contraption extrudes an impossible cannoli, at once grotesque and delightful. Performance and sculpture converge in a communal, larger-than-life dessert experience. Rooted in family nostalgia and childhood trips to bakeries, the work transforms a cherished memory into a nostalgic, collective spectacle.

"Structures Inachevées" by Ludivine Gérard brings together the evolving threads of work from the emotional layering of her series Recadrage to the fragmented presence of the human form in Silhouette. Each piece remains open, unfinished, inviting the viewer to complete the story or let it remain in motion. Across all series, the artist explores the tension between structure and absence, balance and disruption, visibility and silence.

The opening reception will be on First Friday, March 6 from 5:00-7:00pm with artist talks beginning at 5:30pm. The gallery is open weekdays 10am-5pm.

Do you love to read nonfiction? The Carbondale Library invites you to read a nonfiction book of your choice around a monthly theme and then join us as we discuss and socialize around the books we read. The theme for March is any nonfiction book of your choice about a recipient of the Nobel Prize. For more information call the library 970-963-2889.

Sopris Lodge at Carbondale Senior Living will host a presentation exploring the differences between palliative and hospice care on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 3 p.m. The talk will be co-led by Dr. Shane Lieberman of Valley View Hospital and Peter Schoomaker of HomeCare and Hospice of the Valley.

Speakers will address common misconceptions and help individuals and families understand who benefits from palliative and hospice care, when each type of care is appropriate, and how to access these compassionate, supportive services throughout serious illness and at the end of life.

The educational presentation will be held at Sopris Lodge at Carbondale, 295 Rio Grande Avenue. The event is free open to the public, but an RSVP is requested at 970-678-0057.

Meet us in the Children's library for a special story time where books come to life through American Sign Language! Children will enjoy a read-aloud that is also signed, helping them see how stories can be told with both voice and hands. After the story, kids will learn a few beginner ASL signs in a fun, simple mini-lesson perfect for little learners. This program encourages curiosity, communication, and inclusivity—everyone is welcome! For children ages 3 years to 7 years old.

Step into a world of magic and mystery during this welcoming Dungeons & Dragons session at the Basalt Regional Library. Guided by the Dungeon Master, players will work together to solve puzzles, explore fantastical landscapes, and shape the story through their choices. Come to meet new friends, try something creative, and enjoy an evening of play. All levels of experience are welcome, but basic familiarity with D&D is helpful.

Local cyclist Pat Callahan has biked across multiple continents over the past decade. Join us as Pat shares stories and photographs of his 6500-mile trek across Africa.

The journey began in 2023 with an awe-inspiring expedition across Northern Africa—climbing the Atlas Mountains, crossing the mighty Sahara Desert, and reaching the vibrant city of Dakar, Senegal. He followed that up with a ride across the seemingly endless deserts and grasslands between South Africa and Kenya.

Along the way, Pat meets locals and fellow travelers, sharing stories and forging bonds that highlight both the joys and challenges of the road.
All ages welcome.

English In Action’s signature live storytelling event, Immigrant Voices, celebrates the compelling stories of the organization’s adult English learners and spotlights the breadth and vitality of immigrants in the Roaring Fork Valley. Since its inception, Immigrant Voices has wowed sold-out TACAW audiences and become an anticipated and visible event in the Roaring Fork Valley community. Presented by English In Action in partnership with TACAW and Alya Howe’s Writ Large.

English In Action is a Roaring Fork Valley nonprofit organization dedicated to helping adult immigrants learn English and fostering cross-cultural connections.

An engaging time where you and your child are invited to listen to stories, participate in large motor movement, experience sensory activities, and be able to interact with other children and caregivers. This is geared to children 0-3 years old.

Éste es un momento divertido e interesante en el cual tú y tu peque pueden escuchar historias, participar en movimientos que fortalecen la motricidad, experimentar actividades sensoriales e interactuar con más peques y personas adultas a su cuidado. Este programa está diseñado para peques de 0 a 3 años de edad. El programa será facilitado en inglés.
