"The Way is Not a Way But a Place" by Chloe Wildwerding
This is a solo exhibition by mixed media artist Chloe Wilwerding blends photography, embroidery, and quilting into textile portraits of place. Through references to merit badges and outdoor gear, the show proposes a shift from achievement in nature towards wonder, intimacy, and attention to the landscape.

GEOart Collective: Cracks, Layers, Water
The GEOart Collective is an international consortium of artists who share a love and fascination of nature and the geosciences. Each artist in our group brings a unique set of skills in the world of textile and mixed media. Many of us create our own fabrics, threads and papers through the use of dye, paint and print. Artists in the GEOart Collective have exhibited their work locally, nationally and internationally.

Join us for the opening reception Thursday (yes, Thursday), July 9, from 5:00-7:00pm with an artist talk beginning at 5:30pm. Thank you to Wilderness Workshop for generously sponsoring these exhibitions and for your meaningful work in protecting wilderness, water, and wildlife in Western Colorado!

This lively conversation brings together writers who dig beneath the surface of history, place, memory, and imagination to uncover the stories that shape who we are. Local authors Lynn Aliya and Paul Andersen will share insights into their creative processes, explore how stories are discovered and developed, and reflect on the power of storytelling to reveal hidden truths and unexpected connections. Audience questions and discussion are encouraged—readers, writers, and the simply curious are all welcome.

Esta animada conversación reúne a escritores que escarban debajo de la superficie de la historia, los lugares, la memoria y la imaginación para revelar las historias que dan forma a quienes somos. Grab your explorer hat and head out on an art adventure! You’ll create art inspired by wild animals from forests, rivers, mountains, and meadows—think bears, foxes, owls, deer, fish, and more. Paint big animal shapes, collage furry and feathery textures, build masks and puppets, and sculpt tiny creatures with clay. You’ll stamp tracks, make habitat scenes, and use bright colors to bring your wildlife discoveries to life. Get ready to make a little mess, try new materials, and take home a whole collection of wild masterpieces!

Sopris Lodge will host a food and supply drive benefiting our furry friends at Colorado Animal Rescue! Donations to support local shelter pets will be accepted daily between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in collection boxes located at our main entrance.
