"The Way is Not a Way But a Place" by Chloe Wildwerding
This is a solo exhibition by mixed media artist Chloe Wilwerding blends photography, embroidery, and quilting into textile portraits of place. Through references to merit badges and outdoor gear, the show proposes a shift from achievement in nature towards wonder, intimacy, and attention to the landscape.

GEOart Collective: Cracks, Layers, Water
The GEOart Collective is an international consortium of artists who share a love and fascination of nature and the geosciences. Each artist in our group brings a unique set of skills in the world of textile and mixed media. Many of us create our own fabrics, threads and papers through the use of dye, paint and print. Artists in the GEOart Collective have exhibited their work locally, nationally and internationally.

Join us for the opening reception Thursday (yes, Thursday), July 9, from 5:00-7:00pm with an artist talk beginning at 5:30pm. Thank you to Wilderness Workshop for generously sponsoring these exhibitions and for your meaningful work in protecting wilderness, water, and wildlife in Western Colorado!

This summer, Thursdays a la cART invites families and adults alike to create together through hands-on creativity in the Learning Lab and galleries of the Powers Art Center. Inspired by the bold works of Jasper Johns and Roy Lichtenstein, discover, make, and get inspired!

This camp will be held at Rock Bottom Ranch

This week of Plants and Potions is taught in collaboration with the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES). Each day, campers will spend the morning with ACES educators exploring hands-on activities aligned with the camp’s theme. In the afternoon, TAB educators will guide creative art projects that build on and connect to the concepts introduced earlier in the day. These collaboration camps are perfect for children that love spending time in nature and making art!

Step into a world of wonder where nature is your laboratory! During Plants & Potions, campers will dive into hands-on adventures that blend plant science with a touch of whimsy and wizardry. Campers will build their skills in plant identification, brew sun teas, paint with plants, and experiment with reaction potions. Leave this week with a better understanding of the hidden benefits and uses of plants that makes them magical.

Build, Invent, and Imagine! You’ll design and construct buildings, vehicles, machines, butterflies, ladybugs—anything you can dream up. Using cardboard, recycled materials, simple tools, tape, glue, and lots of creative problem-solving, you’ll plan, prototype, and bring big ideas to life, then paint, customize, and add details to make each project uniquely your own.

Seniors and locals alike join us at the Powers Art Center for our Senior Stroll at 11:30 a.m. Enjoy a free walk-through of our exhibitions, ask questions, and learn more about our museum. We’ll see you there!

Slow down, settle in, and experience the calming practice of creating mandalas. Often used as a form of meditation, mandala drawing encourages mindfulness, focus, and self-reflection through the simple repetition of shapes, lines, and patterns.

In this class, you’ll create small-scale mandalas using simple mark-making techniques with drawing tools such as Micron Archival Ink Pens.

A supportive non-critical approach will be the intention of the class.

Andrew Roberts-Gray is an artist whose layered work references a number of cultural traditions. These traditions include science fiction, the history of the painted landscape, and the development of the thinking machine. His studio is located at SAW, (Studio for Arts and Works) in Carbondale, Colorado.

His studio practice involves material experimentation, printmaking, the metamorphosis of mistakes, research, and the brushstroke.

Creek Critters invites young explorers to discover the hidden wonders of our wetlands. From macroinvertebrates to muskrats, each day will be dripping with new discoveries.This camp is perfect for kids that like to get a little muddy and experience science through hands-on activities, stories, and games.

Winged Wonders camp invites young naturalists to explore our incredible world of flying creatures. From dragonflies on the pond to herons in the rookery, Rock Bottom Ranch is home to flyers galore! We’ll dive into the ‘why’ behind wings, make wing-themed art, and soar through different flight-themed challenges.
