Reverend Hardy interviews Ariel Rittenhouse of Raw Mountain Farm in Basalt about the pros and cons of being a farmer after 9 years in the industry. In 2026, Ariel transitioned to taking on a land lease and farming for her personal business, Raw Mountain Farm LLC, after most recently working for Rock Bottom Ranch. Conscious capitalism informs her regenerative approach, which includes water management, low till, diversified vegetables, and a market garden model farm. She strives to give back to the soil and coexist with the other natural life at the farm. Beyond wholesale to chefs, you can find Ariel at the Glenwood springs and Basalt Farmers markets; she also runs a small CSA and has a contract with Lift Up, a local food pantry.
