Municipal Matters | Leadville City Council and Housing Development in Rifle

The Election results are in, and Leadville has a batch of new faces! The newest city council members will be sworn in next January, but you can get a sneak peek here with freshly elected councilwoman Gita Carey. Carey and her family have been living in Leadville for a decade, and she says that her love for the town and what it has given her family inspires her to give back. KDNK's Lily Jones spoke with Carey about dark skies, open spaces, and the importance of mindful growth.

Housing and affordability are top of mind throughout our region, and Rifle is no exception. Earlier this month, the city of Rifle presented its newly completed housing plan in a community meeting at Town Hall. The city hired Points Consulting to help assess housing needs, identify current housing challenges, and land available for development, as well as data and insights to guide decision-making. The upshot: Rifle now joins other resort-adjacent towns in embracing concepts such as infill and accessory dwelling units as solutions to housing workers and sustaining a sense of community.
KDNK’s Mike Lemmer was on the scene at council chambers and talked to Rifle City Planner Zach Higgins about the new housing plan.
