This month, we spoke to LGBTQ plus members of our community about their coming out stories - the moments when they took the leap and stepped into their authentic selves. From stories of personal moments, to parent reactions, to societal challenges, each storyteller's journey is unique…just like all of us. Tune into Voices Radio Hour on KDNK.org the second Friday of each month from 6-7pm.
This month's storytellers:
Todd Chamberlin is the Executive Director of The Sopris Sun, a nonprofit community newspaper serving Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley. After coming to terms as a young gay man in the 1980s, he’s now discovering that coming out again — this time with prostate cancer — carries many of the same lessons: courage, vulnerability, and the healing power of truth shared openly with community. This reflection revisits that first journey — what he wishes his younger self had known about love, fear, self-acceptance, and the light that endures — a light now guiding him as he prepares for prostate surgery at 55, and toward the beautiful journeys that still lies ahead.
Myki Jones (They/She) has been writing in The Roaring Fork Valley since 2021. With brief stints on stage, they find joy in not only creating but giving others a voice through her interviews through her news reporting and through her work with The Empowered Voice magazine. Through her journey of identity, something on-going and gloriously messy, she hopes to inspire others to find love and safety in themselves, their community, and to allow them the freedom to be containers of chaos.
