Material Haiku MMXXVI by Gaby Oshiro turns her divergent exploration on the evocative power of materials, techniques, and the balance between; subtraction-addition, destruction-creation, chaos-order. A painting is an aesthetic object with its own expressive power that acquires ontological status.
Kindred Spirits is a two-person exhibition by ceramic artist Christine Anderson and abstract painter Benjamin Strawn who share a forty-plus year friendship centered on the exploration and interplay of artistic ideas. Their work embodies their shared creative vision, their love and care for each other, and their emotive depth.

The opening reception will be Friday, April 17 from 5-7pm with an artist talk beginning at 5:30pm. Both shows are on display through May 21.

Dr. Amy Honan presents: Fungi are among the most important organisms on Earth, yet they remain poorly understood and largely unprotected. From nutrient cycling and soil formation to complex partnerships with plants and animals, fungi underpin the health of ecosystems all around us, and many species are still undocumented or overlooked in conservation efforts.

This talk will take us into the world of fungal conservation across Colorado: why fungi have historically been left out of conservation frameworks, how scientists are working to close those gaps, and what you can do to help. We'll explore rare and under-documented species, new tools for assessing rarity and abundance, and how mushroom enthusiasts and community scientists can contribute meaningful data through responsible documentation and organized surveys.

Join us for a weekly hour of story time, activities and snacks. These classes support brain development and social skills, and are led in Spanish.

Get ready to explore, experiment, and discover! Join us every first and third Tuesday afternoon for a hands-on science workshop at the library. Each session features engaging activities and experiments led by a high school apprentice from the Aspen Science Center apprenticeship program. Kids will dive into fun projects in science, technology, engineering, and math — building curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills along the way. Free and all materials will be provided. Designed for kids ages 6-12.

Knitters and crocheters (and any other yarn workers) come together to work on and discuss projects, yarn, and techniques. Open to all; bring your own supplies and works-in-progress.

Join us for Mahjong at Basalt Regional Library, an open play session welcoming players of all experience levels. Whether you’re a seasoned player or completely new to the game, you’re invited to enjoy an afternoon of strategy, skill, and community. Facilitators will be available to help beginners learn the basics and feel comfortable getting started.

Space is limited, so registration is required. The library also has a limited number of Mahjong sets available, so if you have your own set, please consider bringing it along. We look forward to seeing you at the table!

Acompáñanos para un juego de Mahjong en la Biblioteca Regional de Basalt, una sesión abierta de juego en la que damos la bienvenida a personas en todos los niveles de destreza. Ya sea que tengas mucha experiencia en este juego o que sea tu primera vez jugándolo, te invitamos a disfrutar de una tarde de estrategia, destreza y comunidad. Contaremos con personas que nos ayudarán a facilitar el juego, de manera que si apenas comienzas, podrás aprender los conceptos básicos con comodidad y facilidad.
