On display through May 15. The Carbondale Arts Gallery is open weekdays 10am-5pm.
“subject/matr/mother” is a group exhibition curated by Shawna Miller with featured artists Mya Cluff, Courtney Dudley, Darla Jackson, LUCIA, Erin Morrison, and Maria Teicher. Matr is the Latin root for material, matter, and maternal. The seven female artists in this show create work that centers the complexity of the maternal experience. The curation aims to celebrate the link between “woman” and “mother,” while interrogating the way we associate them as one-and-the-same, or a preordained linear destiny.

May 04 Sunday
Our world is built not only from bricks and steel, but from stories—from generations of dreams imagined into being. From money to gender, nations to religions, much of what we call reality is simply a shared act of belief. But if imagination can build the world, it can also imprison us within labyrinths of our own creation. This Sunday, we’ll explore the power of imagination to shape our lives, for harm and for hope. Through Dr. Seuss, the science of naming fish, courtroom dramas, theatrical productions, and the courageous journeys of dreamers both fictional and real, we’ll ask: What will we imagine next—and how may we use that to bring liberation, love, and community into ever greater resplendence in our lives?
