Get ready to make art inspired by all your favorite animals—pets, critters, and fuzzy friends of every kind! You’ll explore bright colors, fun textures, and big imagination while trying new art supplies in a kid-friendly, hands-on studio. Expect a little mess, lots of giggles, and plenty of artwork to take home!

This camp will be held at Rock Bottom Ranch

This week of Gnome Adventures is taught in collaboration with the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES). Each day, campers will spend the morning with ACES educators exploring hands-on activities aligned with the camp’s theme. In the afternoon, TAB educators will guide creative art projects that build on and connect to the concepts introduced earlier in the day. These collaboration camps are perfect for children that love spending time in nature and making art!

Magic abounds at Rock Bottom Ranch and when you walk around our secret paths, you’ll find out why! Explore the forests, wetlands, gardens, pastures, and ponds at the ranch while looking for secret messages left behind by gnomes. Woodland Gnomes, Farm Gnomes, Garden Gnomes….you’ll learn the ways of our magical friends and even build your own gnome home!

Build, Invent, and Imagine! You’ll design and construct buildings, vehicles, machines, butterflies, ladybugs—anything you can dream up. Using cardboard, recycled materials, simple tools, tape, glue, and lots of creative problem-solving, you’ll plan, prototype, and bring big ideas to life, then paint, customize, and add details to make each project uniquely your own.

Step into a world of wonder where nature is your laboratory! During Plants & Potions, campers will dive into hands-on adventures that blend plant science with a touch of whimsy and wizardry. Campers will build their skills in plant identification, brew sun teas, paint with plants, and experiment with reaction potions. Leave this week with a better understanding of the hidden benefits and uses of plants that makes them magical.

"The Way is Not a Way But a Place" by Chloe Wildwerding
This is a solo exhibition by mixed media artist Chloe Wilwerding blends photography, embroidery, and quilting into textile portraits of place. Through references to merit badges and outdoor gear, the show proposes a shift from achievement in nature towards wonder, intimacy, and attention to the landscape.

GEOart Collective: Cracks, Layers, Water
The GEOart Collective is an international consortium of artists who share a love and fascination of nature and the geosciences. Each artist in our group brings a unique set of skills in the world of textile and mixed media. Many of us create our own fabrics, threads and papers through the use of dye, paint and print. Artists in the GEOart Collective have exhibited their work locally, nationally and internationally.

Join us for the opening reception Thursday (yes, Thursday), July 9, from 5:00-7:00pm with an artist talk beginning at 5:30pm. Thank you to Wilderness Workshop for generously sponsoring these exhibitions and for your meaningful work in protecting wilderness, water, and wildlife in Western Colorado!

We are excited to inaugurate our music workshop series with a Songwriting session led by Jan Garret and JD Martin!
The July 7 and August 4 sessions will focus on the mechanics of songwriting. Jan & JD will guide participants through exercises designed to build songwriting skills and spark creativity. We hope you’ll join us for their follow-up workshops on July 21 and August 18th, where participants will have the opportunity to share their songs and receive feedback.
Jan Garrett recorded and toured with John Denver and Steve Martin (when he was still doing stand-up) and appeared on the Tonight Show. She joined Dirt Band for their historic 1977 Soviet Tour and was later listed in the Rolling Stone “Who’s Who in Rock & Roll.” Jan’s songs have won multiple awards in the world of positive music, and have been arranged, published and widely distributed by Cypress Music, a Canadian choral music company. JD Martin is an acclaimed songwriter of 5 Number One and 10 Top Ten country and pop hit singles. His songs have been recorded by such luminaries as Reba McEntire, Terri Clark, B.J. Thomas, Peter Cetera, and the Oak Ridge Boys. He has won over 15 ASCAP awards for excellence in songwriting in Nashville and LA. ¡Estamos emocionados de inaugurar nuestra serie de talleres musicales con una sesión de composición musical dirigida por Jan Garret y JD Martin!
Las sesiones del 7 de julio y del 4 de agosto se centrará en los métodos de composición musical. Jan y JD guiarán a las personas participantes a través de ejercicios diseñados para desarrollar aptitudes de composición musical y despertar la creatividad. Esperamos que nos acompañes durante la continuación de estos talleres, el 21 de julio y 18 de agosto, donde las personas participantes tendrán la oportunidad de compartir sus canciones y de recibir comentarios y sugerencias.
