Get ready for Zumba with Andrea Orrego

Zumba is a global dance phenomenon that invites the body and spirit into a state of pure, rhythmic connection. Originally inspired by the vibrant dance traditions of Latin America — Salsa, Cumbia, Merengue, and Reggaeton — Zumba has since grown into a dynamic fusion of world rhythms, blending Afrobeat, Bollywood, Bhangra, Belly Dance, Hip Hop, and more into an electrifying celebration of movement.

At its core, Zumba is about intuitive dance expression. Rather than focusing on strict choreography or technical breakdowns, the structure of a Zumba class mirrors the architecture of music itself — simple, repeatable patterns tied to the chorus, verses, and bridges of each song. This approach allows dancers to anticipate transitions naturally, freeing them from the constraints of counting steps and encouraging a deeper, more instinctive relationship with rhythm.

Zumba invites a profound reconnection to the joy of embodied movement: a space where strength meets sensuality, sweat becomes celebration, and music becomes a global language that transcends borders.
For seasoned dancers, Zumba offers a refreshing invitation to return to the essence of why we dance — not for perfection, but for expression, connection, and exhilaration. It is a journey through cultures, rhythms, and emotions, all channeled through the most ancient instrument we possess: our own bodies.

All dance levels welcome!

Prepares adults for the U.S. citizenship and naturalization exam and interview. Covers key areas of U.S. history, government, civics, geography, and the structure of federal, state, and local governments. Students will also explore opportunities for community and civic participation and discuss current events. The course includes test-taking strategies along with essential English writing and speaking skills, and interview preparation to help build confidence and familiarity with the naturalization process. Class is taught in English and Spanish, but all languages are accommodated, and all are welcome. This course is offered in partnership between Colorado Mountain College and the Carbondale Public Library.
Prepara a los adultos para el examen y la entrevista de ciudadanía y naturalización de los Estados Unidos. Abarca temas clave de historia, gobierno, educación cívica y geografía de EE. UU., así como la estructura de los gobiernos federal, estatal y local. Los estudiantes también explorarán oportunidades de participación comunitaria y cívica, y debatirán sobre temas de actualidad. Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glenwood Springs will be hosting a 10,000 Villages Fair Trade International Craft Fair. Good Shepherd is located on Grand Ave, next to Sayer Park. The doors will be open Thurs Nov 6 from noon to 6pm, Friday Nov 7 from 10am to 6pm, Sat Nov 8 from 10am to 5 pm, Sun Nov 9 from noon to 4pm. All proceeds from the sale go to the artisans of the handmade goods, to provide a stable income and allow disadvantaged people from 35 countries to take control of their own lives. Since their founding in 1946, 10,000 Villages has provided 140 million dollars in sustainable income to workers who would otherwise be unemployed. Come by and support the artisans and find some gifts that are unique and handmade using local and recycled materials.
This event has been in the valley for over 35 years!
Ten Thousand Villages is a nonprofit fair trade organization that markets handcrafted products made by disadvantaged artisans from more than 120 artisan groups in more than 35 countries, cultivating long term-buying relationships in which artisans receive a fair price for their work.

Keep a Roaring Fork Valley tradition alive at the Contra Dance on November 7 at the Third Street Center in Carbondale. Gather with neighbors of all ages for an evening of old time social dancing and live music by the Wooden Nickel String Band. No experience or partner is needed. A caller teaches and guides each dance, so everyone is welcome.

The beginner lesson starts at 7:00 PM, with dancing from 7:30 to 9:30 PM. Suggested donation is $10 to $20 for adults and $5 for kids. Cash appreciated. Come dance, listen to the music, and be part of a living Valley tradition.

It's soup season. Yes, this soup is for you! Bring your favorite recipe and soup to share! November is Indigenous Peoples Month at the Library, so you can even offer a soup that was traditional to the indigenous tribes of Colorado! Cornbread and sides are also welcome. Bring your own tupperware to bring home some leftovers of your favorite soup. Drinks will be provided.
