VOICES Radio Hour | HerStory

VOICES Radio Hour is a monthly presence on KDNK which explores different themes and invites diverse voices in our community to share their stories. August's episode, HerStory, is dedicated to strong women in Carbondale, then and now. It was recorded live during our inaugural Summertime Stories & Music event in collaboration with the Carbondale Historical Society earlier this summer on the Historic Thompson House grounds. In this 7th episode, we hear stories from five remarkable women who have shaped, loved, and honored this beautiful place we call home. Throughout all of their stories, there is a common theme of the deep call to build a life in Carbondale and the Crystal River Valley.

HerStory features stories by Charlotte Graham Whitney, Amy Kimberly, Andrea Monique Peña Harris, Jeannie Perry, and Laurie Loeb, with music performed live by Sandra Wong on Swedish folk instrument nyckelharpa and MinTze Wu on violin.

VOICES Radio Hour is presented by VOICES in collaboration with Circa 71 Productions. This series is in response to our intrinsic need to share stories, coupling with Circa 71 Productions’ mission to preserve memories and stories as the sacred archeology of our loved ones. The collaboration brings about collected stories under different themes and voices from all walks of our community. We hope this serves to preserve our oral history of who we are, where we come from, and who we aspire to be, through the tradition of storytelling.
