The Women's Voices Project Reflects on Lockdown with 'The Collective Pause'

May 12, 2020
VOICES

Before COVID-19, local arts organization VOICES was working towards its second annual Women's Voices Theater project. 8 local women taking the stage with work they created. This is important because women's work is produced 1/5th as often as men's on stage.  Unfortunately VOICES had to postpone the event to Mother's Day, 2021. But they wouldn't let the pandemic have the final say! To provide an outlet for these performers, they produced a special podcast titled "The Collective Pause" that aired on Mother's Day. It features work from Suzie Brady, Vanessa Porras, Renee Prince, Natalie Spears, Marcia Weese and MinTze Wu. All reflecting on their experience with lockdown. Some more serious pieces, some humor - all heart.

The Kreutzer Sonata: In Words and in Music interweaves the narratives of Tolstoy’s novella Kreutzer Sonata with the music of Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich, and Beethoven’s monumental masterpiece that inspired the story. This is an excerpt of a new ensemble-piece production by BenFeng Music Studio, of which MinTze Wu is the founder and artistic director. KDNK's Raleigh Burleigh spoke with MinTze about her upcoming performance of this piece at the Christ Episcopal Church of Aspen on October 18.
