Some of the most important justice work doesn’t happen in public. It happens in the spaces where we feel safe, unchallenged, and certain we’re “the good ones.” In this Social Justice service, we’ll explore a bracing (and strangely freeing) question: who are we becoming when nobody’s watching? Not as a guilt trip, and not as a performance—more like honest spiritual training for the moments that shape our character: how we speak when it’s comfortable to be sloppy, how we respond when feedback stings, how we notice the systems that keep benefiting us even when we don’t “mean” to.
Together we’ll practice the shift from defensiveness to accountability, from optics to integrity, from “I’m not like those people” to “What am I willing to change—and what am I willing to risk?” Expect a service that is candid, compassionate, and practical: more listening than posturing, more formation than finger-pointing, and an invitation to grow a sturdier kind of solidarity—one that shows up in real rooms, on real Tuesdays, with real choices.

Karl Bertrand is a guitarist, singer, and songwriter who blends improvisational explorations between popular covers and finely-crafted originals. He draws from lived experiences in the genres of folk, jazz, jam, and bluegrass to create a blend of style uniquely his own. 

Reggae Artist Wylie Jones is rooted in the Denver foothills and perpetually tours the Rocky Mountains. A few of Wylie's most notable accomplishments include performing with King Yellowman at Red Rocks for Reggae On The Rocks 2024, recording at the award winning Blackbird Studio in Nashville, TN 2023. Playing keys with the legendary Itals at Red Rocks Amphitheater for Reggae on The Rocks 2022 and supporting Ziggy Marley solo at a sold out Mishawaka Amphitheater 2019. Wylie’s seismic soulful voice resonates lifetimes of experience. Wylie Jones’s exuberant talent make for an unforgettable experience of shoulder popping, heart thumping, hip shaking bliss.  

Carbondale Arts presents two new exhibitions in the gallery on display March 6-April 9, 2026. "Sweet Excess" by William Lanzillo brings to life giant contraption extrudes an impossible cannoli, at once grotesque and delightful. Performance and sculpture converge in a communal, larger-than-life dessert experience. Rooted in family nostalgia and childhood trips to bakeries, the work transforms a cherished memory into a nostalgic, collective spectacle.

"Structures Inachevées" by Ludivine Gérard brings together the evolving threads of work from the emotional layering of her series Recadrage to the fragmented presence of the human form in Silhouette. Each piece remains open, unfinished, inviting the viewer to complete the story or let it remain in motion. Across all series, the artist explores the tension between structure and absence, balance and disruption, visibility and silence.

The opening reception will be on First Friday, March 6 from 5:00-7:00pm with artist talks beginning at 5:30pm. The gallery is open weekdays 10am-5pm.

Raising a Reader- Aspen to Parachute invites you to our "Little Red Bag Club" for parents and their 0-5 year old children who are not enrolled in school. Join us for a weekly hour of story time, activities and snacks. These classes support brain development and social skills, and are led in Spanish.

Whether you use the mobile app to identify stars in real-time or use the desktop suite to go back in time to view the sky as it was 2500 years ago, this course will teach you how to navigate the cosmos. Learn how to simulate a telescopic view of the planets and even view the sky through the eyes of dozens of different world cultures.

Acompáñanos y aprende a manejar el popular programa planetario gratuito conocido como Stellarium. Ya sea que utilices la aplicación diseñada para dispositivos móviles con la que podrás identificar estrellas en tiempo real, o que utilices la suite computacional para regresar en el tiempo y observar el cielo como se mostraba hace 2500 años, con este curso aprenderás a navegar el cosmos. Prepárate para simular una vista telescópica de los planetas y observa el firmamento a través de los ojos de docenas de culturas distintas. El programa será facilitado en inglés.

Get ready to explore, experiment, and discover! Join us every first and third Tuesday afternoon for a hands-on science workshop at the library. Each session features engaging activities and experiments led by a high school apprentice from the Aspen Science Center apprenticeship program. Kids will dive into fun projects in science, technology, engineering, and math — building curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills along the way. Free and all materials will be provided. Designed for kids ages 6-12.

Cada sesión presentará actividades interesantes y experimentos guiados por un aprendiz de la escuela media superior, como parte del Programa de Aprendizaje de Aspen Science Center. Todas las personitas participantes podrán sumergirse en divertidos proyectos de ciencia, tecnología, ingeniería y matemáticas — al tiempo que fomentan su curiosidad, creatividad y aptitudes de resolución de problemas.
