Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art focused on re-directing conflict into harmony. Benefits include confidence, discipline, stress-relief, resilience, community-building and fitness. Kids' classes incorporate a mixture of technique and relevant games. As they progress, they will have the opportunity to test for colored belts.

Aikido classes at CMC Carbondale are now forming for the Spring Semester. Aikido emphasizes non-violent conflict resolution. Principles and techniques are applicable to all types of conflict, not just physical. Training takes place in a joyful and supportive environment. Great workout for mind, body, and spirit. No experience or equipment needed. Classes meet in Carbondale from 6-7:30 every Tuesday and Thursday evening. Try the first 2 classes for free. When recycling plastic in Carbondale, stick to bottles, tubs, jars, and jugs. No clamshells, plastic bags, coffee cups, or takeout containers. If it's not a bottle, tub, jar, or jug, toss it in the trash. These items can't be sorted and there is no end-user market for them.

Recyclables in Carbondale shouldn't be bagged. Just place them loose in a bin. If your recyclables are in grocery or garbage bags, they're likely being thrown in the landfill instead. Bagging your recyclables may even cause entire loads to be rejected. This is because bags cause jams in the sorting machines which can slow down lines and cause costly damage. Other items that aren't recyclable are bubble wrap, food wraps, and garden hoses.

Sopris Lodge has partnered with the Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District to host a holiday food and supply drive benefiting our friends at Colorado Animal Rescue! Donations to support local shelter pets will be accepted Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Dec. 1-19) in collection boxes at both locations.

Raising a Reader- Aspen to Parachute invites you to our "Little Red Bag Club" for parents and their 0-5 year old children who are not enrolled in school. Join us for a weekly hour of story time, activities and snacks. These classes support brain development and social skills, and are led in Spanish.

Everyone has a story. Everyone is a memoir. We’ll engage in thoughtful discussions about “being a writer” and the art of writing, practice mindfulness for awakening our Writer Muses, expand our memoir writing with storytelling and wordplay, read sections of published memoirs for inspiration, and dive into prompts to recall and ignite the stories inside of us. We'll jump “write” in to write and inspire each other! Sharing your writing is always optional. This series celebrates connection. How and what you contribute is up to you. Bring a journal, as well as water and a snack if you wish to.

Participaremos en discusiones profundas sobre lo que representa “ser escritor(a)” y el arte de la escritura; practicaremos la conciencia plena para despertar a nuestras Musas de la Escritura; enriqueceremos nuestra autobiografía con juegos de palabras y lenguaje figurativo; leeremos fragmentos de autobiografías publicadas para inspirarnos; y exploraremos ideas para recordar y encender las historias que viven en nuestro interior. ¡Comenzaremos de inmediato a redactar, inspirándonos mutuamente! Sopris Lodge has partnered with the Alzheimer’s Association to offer a free in-person support group for families, spouses, and caregivers of those living with Alzheimer’s or related dementia. The group meets on the second Tuesday of each month and is open to the public.

This program is for children in grades 1st - 4th who want to practice their reading skills by reading one of their favorite books to a dog! Each child will have 15 minutes of time to read with their canine friend. Registration is required and each child will have an email reminder the day before.
